I love creating mosaics and teaching others to mosaic as well. My pieces typically utilize glass, rocks, beads, and metal. I often combine mosaics with woodburning for a unique effect. Some of my favorite pieces have been mosaic guitars.

Childhood memories of living in the mountains of Colorado, astrology, tarot, quantum energy, sacred geometry, a love of rocks, and an interest in the mysteries of ancient civilizations swirl together to create the playing ground for my inspirations.  I adore working with crystals and gemstones, both for their beauty, and energetic properties.  I particularly enjoy creating mirror frames that incorporate mandalas in the design. I admire mandalas for their repeating patterns of fractals energy and use those patterns to create a natural movement within my designs.

My vision is to create art that has an energy field that interacts with the energy field of the viewer.  I create all of my work by starting with a color or vibration/energy I want to explore, then work the design and materials into a voice and energy field. I incorporate mirror, either as an obvious reflecting element, or as a hidden reflective quality.  The color, design, and materials of each piece are infused with metaphysical intent to weave layers of meaning and function into each piece.

Rebecca crossed over to mosaics from painting in 2002.  Working with mixed media on a large scale, she continues to enjoy cataloging the flora and fauna of the south shore of Lake Superior.  Rebecca uses a wide range of materials: glass, ceramic, jewelry, and found objects such as bicycle chains, nails, and bullet casings.  She also incorporates text in most of her work.  She creates handmade tiles from clay with information, nesting habits, bird calls, poetry, and literary quotes related to the subject.

I was just accepted to the Chicago Mosaic School certificate program which I am starting in April.

Kristin Dieng is a fine mosaic artist, specializing in stained glass-on-glass artwork. Her work highlights the intersection of glass, light and color, and the ways in which they dance together when illuminated. Kristin's creative motivation comes from her desire to respond positively to a chronic illness. For her, creating art provides an opportunity for finding purpose and enjoyment in life, and this enjoyment shines through her use of bright, colorful designs. Kristin specializes in landscapes, trees and flowers, as well as other designs involving nature; she also enjoys creating complex geometric patterns. All of her designs are created with hand-cut stained glass pieces, and Kristin often uses glass beads, semi-precious gemstones and geode slices in her designs.

FEATURE ARTIST

As a mixed media and glass artist, I get to combine all of my passions.  I don't have to settle on one medium to express myself.  I can use a photograph or drawing and apply a stained glass mosaic on top of it.  Glass is so versatile and I absolutely love the color palettes and combinations available to choose from. 

I can also sculpt an object and apply all sorts of items to adorn it and create a 3D mosaic piece from scratch or I can re-purpose a 3D item into something totally new and whimsical.  

My favorite aspect of my art is the puzzle element - each finished piece arrives by meticulously cutting and shaping or manipulating each element to fit together to achieve my desired end result.  

I am constantly stimulated by nature.  The swirl of a fern, the petals of a flower, and the puffs of the clouds – inspiration abounds in the natural world.  I also thoroughly enjoy adding sparkle and shine to my pieces. Mosaics incorporate all of my favorite elements; color, texture and form.

All of my artwork includes some type of re-purposing in them.  Whether it’s a plywood board that sat in my garage for several years, old jewelry I had since I was ten, unused coffee mugs randomly collected over the years or rocks I collected for decorative vase purposes, rather than throw them in the trash, I decided to do something with them.

Ultimately, my goal is to make custom art for others using their old items to create a masterpiece specifically to them.

Stacia Goodman is a self-taught, mid-career mosaic artist whose passion is creating large-scale public and private art. Her style leans toward fluid abstract patterns, playful representational, and calming “zen” organic.

Call it a ‘passion’ or a ‘calling’ but I fell in love with the art of glass making nearly 20 years ago.  It has been a great journey as I started with stained glass, then to fused and now mosaics.  It started as a hobby and now I am fortunate to be doing glass making full-time. 

I went to the The Chicago Mosaic School  to learn the art and theory of Smalti Glass and fell in love with this particular glass trade.   I work with art glass, smalti glass, jewelry, beads,s stones and metals and I love how each piece is unique and has it’s own look.  Working with my hands, getting lost making glass for hours are a few reasons I have chosen this as my path.

I love mosaic and collage, especially exploring different materials and combinations. I use found objects (especially rusty metal, sticks, and other weathered items), thrifted jewelry and figurines, scrap glass, and up-cycled articles. Elizabeth Kitchell-Rockstad creates custom mosaics for residential and public settings, conducts school residencies and community projects and teaches mosaic workshops at her art studio, in Northwest Minnesota.  Elizabeth works primarily in glass and tile, but recently has begun incorporating found objects and beads.  When not at the studio, she can be found helping on the family farm and spending time at the lake with her husband and two girls. In her free time, Elizabeth raises miniature donkeys and countless farm cats! 

After teaching K-12th grade art for 16 years, Elizabeth took a leap of faith and opened her own art studio, Studio 4:13.  She has worked with many groups and enjoys the artistic process of creating...from design and brainstorming, all the way through to installation.

I’ve always been fascinated and inspired by the ancient and contemporary mosaic art that I’ve seen on my worldwide travels. I created my first piece in 2003 when I received my first instruction in mosaics at Laguna Gloria in Austin, Texas.  I was immediately hooked. 

Since then, I’ve taken classes and workshops from some of the best mosaic artists in the world, including Sharra Frank, Sonia King, Yulia Hanansen, and the Chicago Mosaic School.  I’m constantly working on improving my skills and craftmanship.  I’m a member of both the Minnesota Mosaic Guild and the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA).

I design and create decorative functional pieces as well as strictly decorative items.  My work ranges from wall hangings and garden art to decorative vases, trivets, tables and trays. I combine a variety of materials to create texture and interest.  I love to combine color effectively to make my pieces “pop”.  All of my pieces sparkle and shine.

I have been a mosaic artist for about 8 years. I took one class and fell in love with it. I enjoy seeing the process from an idea in my head, to a drawing I create, to color and material selection and then cutting, chipping and grinding glass and china to have that idea become a piece of mosaic art.

I love anything that sparkles and shines so working with glass, china and beads feeds that love completely.

I choose happy subjects because every day we all face the realities of life. I find that flowers, birds, nature and beautiful colors help balance our lives in a positive way. I think art should lift our spirits and feed our souls. I hope my mosaic art might do that for you.

I started mosaicing about 15 years ago and my attraction to this art form grew out of my love of vintage china.  I am also an antique dealer so I come across chipped dishes, vintage jewelry, and various trinkets that I incorporate into my work.  Half of the fun for me is hunting for materials to use in my projects.  I like to decorate home accessories such as table tops, picture and mirror frames, stools, lamp bases, bird houses, stepping stones, trays, etc. with mosaic.  My designs are more of a whimsical or abstract style, rather than realistic.
