November Planning Meeting

Hi All- We had a wonderful turn out for our planning meeting. Thanks for coming and sharing your art and ideas. Several members brought mosaics that they had just finished in a class and they were wonderful. Shelley thank you for opening your home to us again.

Shelley had some information on our 2020 Red Wing show. The dates are changing and we think it will take place most of October. Shelley please send out an email when you have the new dates along with a contract when it is available. We should lock this show in as soon as possible.

December 11th will be the pot luck dinner at Rachel’s home. A separate email has been sent with the details and a food sign up list. I hope many of you can make it for a really fun night. No meeting that night, just socializing. If you want to participate in the tesserae exchange please bring a bag or box with some fun stuff that might inspire another member to create a mosaic using some glass or materials that they have not tried before.

We have chosen not to have a challenge for this pot luck but we already have a challenge for next year’s pot luck. This gives us all time to participate in next year’s challenge. The mosaic will have a tree theme.

Also we decided that this can be a show and tell night. Please bring something that you have been working on (completed or not).

Maria handed out square wood frames to all who want to participate in the “mosaic quilt” that we are making as a group. Maria even attached the wiring for hanging on the back so that they would all match up for hanging in mass. What a big job. Thank you Maria for taking this project on. If you were not at the meeting but would like a square please arrange to pick it up from Maria. We discussed putting a finish on the bare wood frame. I think we discussed a clear satin finish. We want them all to match so please email any thoughts (to the group) on a product that will be easy to get and easy to use. We could use this information asap. Our theme is leaves. You can do any colors and use any materials that you would like. We said just leaves (no trees). If we have enough completed squares we will hang (like a quilt) them at the Red Wing show.

Meetings For 2020

February 12th- I will be hosting the meeting. Please have the framed mosaic completed and bring it to this meeting .It will be fun to see a group of them together. Any additional ideas for the meeting please send them to me.

Shawn will bring ceramic flower pieces that we will be distributed to any member that wishes to use a flower in a mosaic. Amy had a large ceramic piece that had beautiful flowers and leaves. Shawn said that she has some pieces with flowers too. Between Amy’s piece and Shawn’s we should have enough for anyone that wants to participate in this challenge. Amy and Shawn if you want to be reimbursed for the ceramic’s please contact Maria. This challenge can be shown at the April meeting .

April 8th- Lisa Vitkus has again volunteered to have the meeting at her home. Bring your flower mosaic. At this meeting we will pass out letters that spell MINNESOTA MOSAIC GUILD. Liz Taras said that her husband has volunteered to do the letters and boards that we want to mount them on. This is such good news. Thank you so much. The idea is that we can each take one or two letters and mosaic them in our style with a variety of colors and materials. We can mount each word on one rectangular board for ease of hanging at a show. My thought is each letter should be around 5 or 6 inches high and a very basic font. Please let me know what your thoughts are so that we can get this started. If I don’t hear back from enough people we may discuss at the potluck.

June 10th- Mimi Leminh has again volunteered to have the meeting. We will bring completed letters to this meeting . Bring your best ideas and tips for creating mosaics to share. If you have found good resources, tools or products be ready to share them with us. Sharing this information can be so helpful, especially to those who are new to mosaics. The challenge (over the summer) is to make a Steam Punk mosaic. You may have to google this, I know I will.

September 9th- Shelley Beaumont has again volunteered to have the meeting. Bring your Steam Punk mosaic. We will be finalizing details for the Red Wing show.

November 11th- Planning Meeting .Need a location

December- Potluck. Need a location.

If you can hold a meeting please let me know.

We are having many members that are having repeat meetings at their homes. Let me know how you feel about having the person that is having the meeting have help from other members bringing some of the treats, or having the treasury have a reasonable budget to cover food costs ($30) ? when you are the host. If you know of a public location where we could meet that may work too.
