Mosaic Meeting Notes for September 2019

Thank you to members that came to our September meeting and a special thanks to Lisa Vitkus for hosting the meeting and providing us with great treats and drinks. It was great to get together after our summer break!

Items we discussed:

  1. Shelley to report on Red Wing Show for September 9th to October 18, 2020.

Shelley will be heading up the Red Wing show in 2020. She will be making contact with Emily (Red Wing coordinator) in regards to the contract, a demo the night of the reception and providing Emily with any info that she needs for the show.

Shelley has already negotiated a commission split from 40 % (to Red Wing) to 35% and to have mosaics dropped off on a Sunday (it was going to be on a Monday). Also Red Wing will hang the show for us. That will be wonderful. Shelly had photos of the space and it looks light and spacious. Shelley feel free to email the group once you have a revised contract and also if you want to add to the information I am sharing from the meeting. We have made it clear that a community project would entail a separate contract, if and when a member may want to pursue coordinating some kind of project. Emily said she would give a project some thought so we can respond if any member would wish to take it on. This would likely be done by community members and a mosaic artist would be paid for their time. I think this all sounds better then what we originally thought.

  1. Susan Mathis to report on White Bear show July/August 2021.

Susan has met with the White Bear Lake Art center and has offered to head up a show there in 2021. She has already emailed information on the show and I have received many positive responses and everyone at the meeting wants Susan to lock in the date and pursue a contract.

Thank you to both Shelley and Susan for taking on the responsibility of these shows. It is great to have something lined up for the next two years.

  1. Discuss leadership for 2020.

We don’t have a volunteer to become president. I have agreed to continue preparing for the meetings and sending out follow up meeting notes and sending monthly and weekly reminders for our meetings. I will no longer be the contact on shows. Each show will have a volunteer from the group heading up all aspects of it.

I want to thank Maria for all her work with the Blog, dues and membership lists.

  1. Show mosaics with Cityscapes (this month’s challenge). We had several people with cityscapes and a few people brought pieces they have been working on or completed. Beautiful work!

  1. Next meeting at Susan Mathis home on November 15th. Challenge was going to be to make a quilt square. We decided to put this challenge off because everyone participating in this challenge will need to have a matching base to work on. Maria is ordering frames (wood) that have a thin frame edge. She will have hangers added to them so if we want to hang them like a quilt at a show we can do that. These can be picked up at the November meeting and the treasury will cover the cost of the frames. We had a suggestion to have a leaf theme but we can discuss ideas further at the November meeting.

The November meeting is so important. This meeting sets the agenda for the next year and the more input we have the better we can serve all members. Come with ideas for challenges for 2020. Also if you have not hosted a meeting it would be appreciated if you would think about hosting in 2020.

  1. Pot Luck at Rachel Arntson’s home December 11th. More info to come!

  1. Divide loot! - Maria was so nice to pick up several large boxes of broken china and we let people take what they wanted. What was not taken is at Maria’s and if you want to take some please contact her now. She will be recycling it after 9-30 so check it out soon!

That was a lot but I think the main items have been covered. Watch for info from Shelley and Susan on future shows!

Best Regards,

Trudy
