April 2019 meeting notes

Italy Trip highlights

  1. Comments on Hopkins show

  1. Next show- Hutchinson from July 15 to August 23,

The director mentioned wanting to work with us on setting a reception date. The show runs from July 15 - August 23rd so maybe we could give a few options for dates and see which the group prefers?

Lisa also said that install goes from 7/8-7/12 and that she hopes someone from the group can help. I have assured her that we normally have a number of install volunteers but it would be nice to get some firm names. I'm out of town 7/8-7/11 but could probably help on Friday 7/12 if still needed. She said they've accommodated up to 100 pieces in the space before so we should be able to each show multiple pieces. And she is excited to use their window space for glass on glass!

Volunteers for drop off and hanging the show-

  • Exhibition Dates: July 15 - August 23, 2019

  • Approx. 130 - 150 linear feet of wall space plus pedestals for 3d work.

  • Work does not need to be for sale.

  • If artist elects to have it for sale, it is a 70 (artist) / 30 (center) split.

  • They will help with some of the food for the reception and wine is allowed (date TBD)

  • "The space is essentially a fish bowl - lots of windows and a big glass garage door. I strongly encourage some members come for a site visit to get a sense of the possibilities. One reason I selected your group was the hopes you would work with our large windows in some capacity."

June- Shelley’s home- Any size mosaic, a glass on glass piece with a garden theme. Any size and hopefully we can display some of them at the Hutchinson show.

  • September- Lisa Vitkus home- Again any size. Theme is a city scape. It can be a metropolis or a small town or anything in between.

  • November- Susan Mathis home- We plan on having each artist making a square for a quilt. Unlike the Monet and Van Gogh challenge we will not have all the quilt squares kept together, but we may hang them together at a show if there is enough participation. We have not narrowed down a theme or color scheme and it was agreed that we need to have a common tile used for the borders of each square.

  • At this time we will need a place for our Potluck in December.

  1. Pick up of mosaics at Hopkins is May 12th. Laura Lee will be at the center from -

  2. It would be ideal for pick up to begin after the building closes at 5pm and finish by 7pm (as it would allow squeaking in my viewing time) but you may start as early as noon. Note there are two plays that day, so the lobby will be somewhat congested before and after the plays. Those are scheduled for 1pm-2pm and 4pm-5pm.

  • Regards,

  • Trudy
