Mosaic Guild September 2018 Meeting –Follow up Notes

Thank you to Lisa Ferguson for hosting our meeting. We had a nice turn out and some beautiful mosaics were shared. As always I picked up some great tips from other artists.

As a review here is some important info that takes us through the end of the year and also on our two shows for next year.

Future show dates:

Hopkins Show -will be from Thursday March 28th to Saturday May 11, 2019. Delivery and Installation will be Tuesday March 26th and removal May 12th.

A reception will be held on Thursday March 28th from 6 to 8:00.

Hutchinson show-

I'm happy to report that our application for the Hutchinson Center for the Arts 2019 exhibit has been accepted! Below are some details on the space and event:

  • Exhibition Dates: July 15 - August 23, 2019

  • It is a large venue with 7 or 8 moveable 8 foot walls.

  • Things can be displayed on both sides of walls and the space can be configured to best suit the exhibit.

  • Approx 130 - 150 linear feet of wall space plus pedestals for 3d work.

  • Work does not need to be for sale.

  • If artist elects to have it for sale, it is a 70 (artist) / 30 (center) split.

  • They will help with some of the food for the reception and wine is allowed (date TBD)

  • "The space is essentially a fish bowl - lots of windows and a big glass garage door. I strongly encourage some members come for a site visit to get a sense of the possibilities. One reason I selected your group was the hopes you would work with our large windows in some capacity."

We do not have a contract yet but I believe that Maria has confirmed that we will be participating in this show.

If you want to see pictures of the space you can look it up as Hutchinson Center for the Arts.

September - A mosaic with a cultural theme was shared from several members. The diversity of style and materials was amazing. In the future I think we should post pictures of the mosaic challenges that we bring to our meetings.

November 14th- planning meeting is at Shelley Beaumont’s home. Come with great ideas for next year’s challenges or maybe a field trip idea.

Monet Challenge- Materials were passed out to members that have signed up for this challenge. I believe we are looking to have the individual squares completed by the November meeting. I hope we can put it together on the 14th at our planning meeting. We would like to hang the piece at the Hopkins show in March.

A big thank you to Shelley for all the work that she has done on this group project. We so appreciate your time.

December 12th is the Mosaic group’s pot luck and tesserae exchange at my home.

We need an idea for our annual mosaic guessing game. Donna Rae suggested a greeting card theme. So we have one good idea. If anyone else wants to suggest something let me know ASAP. I would like to get the challenge out to the group by the end of September so that everyone has ample time to fit this challenge in with their busy schedules.

For anyone new to the group at the December Pot Luck we have people sign up to bring a dish to share and I will have the main part of the meal. We have a tesserae gift exchange and we make a game out of guessing which artist matches up with whatever the mosaic challenge is.

I hope the weather is cooperating and that we can have a great turn out for this meeting.

Best Regards,

Trudy
