2016 June Minutes

Thank you Janine for hosting the June meeting. We really enjoyed your home and good food.

I had some additional information in regards to The Metro State show in October, including some important dates. I have just copied the timeline given to me by Erica our contact for the show. The most important dates are highlighted. If you want a chance to have your mosaic featured on the post cards that they send out I will need to have your jpgs by Aug. 22nd, or before. This should be a picture of the mosaic that you are submitting for this show. I will give Erica some information that we have used in the past that explains the purpose of the Guild, the cross section of members and some history of Mosaics for the press release. If you plan to show a mosaic in the show please let me know. An inventory list will be made up of all the pieces going into the show. I need the title of the piece, the year it was completed, materials used, the insurance value and the price that you will sell it for. Please include the size. Plan on one mosaic for the show. Metro State only takes 10% if something sells. The exception to only having one piece in the show might be if you have a 3D piece because they do have pedestals available but the wall space is limited.

I believe Kelly Holzer, Rebecca Campbell and Rebecca Carroll have volunteered to help hang the show. Please let me know if that is still going to work for you.

Other items that I shared at the meeting are:

The Gallery will provide at least 300 post cards for our use and they also send out postcards to the gallery’s mailing list, issue a press release, send out an electronic newsletter and update the gallery’s web page.

They provide the food and beverages for the opening night.

The gallery is on the third floor but there is an elevator. There is a minimal sized parking lot but a ramp is just across the street.

There will be a few spots for glass on glass pieces to be hung.

Note that we have a short time frame for drop off and pick up when the show is over.

Next item was to share knowledge on having cards made up from pictures of our mosaics. The following resources were mentioned:

www.vistaprint.com- cards are $9.00 for 10 each

Another resource that one of my friends uses is Visual Expressions at 512-729-1649. Contact is Nancy Westlund. Small business located by Minnehaha and Lake. I do not have any pricing information.

www.Shutterfly.com

Maria’s husband is also an option and she will get the group some information in the near future.

Info on shooting Photos

Susan Mathis shared information on taking pictures of her mosaics. This information came from a professional photographer that we had at one of our meetings.

Trading Cards

Susan Mathis also brought MDF cards that measure 2 ½” x 3 ½”. We will mosaic on these MDF pieces and bring them to the September meeting to trade. Anyone who has a card please have it ready for the Sept. meeting. Susan has four additional cards. If you are interested in getting one (so that you can participate in the trade at our next meeting) please get back to me by June 15th. Add your address just in case we don’t have it. Susan will mail out the cards so include Susan Mathis in your email.

This will be on a first come basis.

Next Meeting September 14th

September meeting will be at Amy Leyden’s home and the challenge is a patriotic themed mosaic (any size). We will trade are mosaic cards.

Last note-

Kristin Dieng won a grant to take a mosaic class in Chicago. You can read more about her and her art at the Guild blog site. Congratulations Kristin!

If anyone has anything they want to add to this please do not hesitate.

Everyone have a great summer.

Best Regards,

Trudy
