Mosaic November 2015 Planning Meeting

The Guild has been chosen to have a show at The Phipps Gallery. I will forward emails that I receive from the Phipps gallery for shows that they have coming up. If members want to check out the gallery it would be a great time to go and to also see the current show. 1) Phipps Gallery – Thanks to Janet for bringing the opportunity to the guild. Thank you to Rebecca Campbell for updating our submittal and to Maria for adding 10 pictures to the submittal when they were requested. 2) Reception Date- First Friday of the show. Show runs from Oct. 27 to December 3, 2017. 3) I believe that the gallery pays about $150 towards food and they have a caterer that they use. 4) Floor plans. I do have floor plans and I will try to get those to you. 5) We hang the art work. 6) Phipps takes 35% of anything sold. Address-109 Locust Street, Hudson Wisc. 54016

Along with the Phipps Gallery show we have also been asked to show at the Hudson Hospital. 1) Hudson Hospital & Clinic- Second opportunity 2) Date- May 10th to Aug. 6th 2017 3) Reception- 8/4/2017 4) Space- 70 feet of wall space with room for 3 D pieces as well 5) Address-405 Stageline Road, Hudson 54016 6) They are asking us to take into account the viewer’s vulnerability- They would like to see pieces that inspire and enhance their environment in a healing way.

There is actually one more possible opportunity at Westfield Hospital. Due to construction work that is planned we won’t find out until January 2016 if we will also have our art shown at that hospital. 1) The Gordon Parks Gallery at the Metropolitan State University’s Art Gallery 2) Maria sent in a submittal this week. 3) Room for about 30 pieces, maybe a few more 4) Reception night before the show opens (with food and drink) 5) No cost to artists, they cover costs of post cards, press releases and electronic newsletter posting the new show 6) Address: 700 East Seventh Street, St. Paul. MN 55106

We are not sure if we will be chosen for a show here but Gil has said that we have had a show there in the past and that it was well received. If we have a show here it will be in 2016. We have no shows scheduled for 2016 at this time so this would be a nice one to have. The show would be titled “Tiny Pieces”. If we get selected I have this info from the contact person there: There’s a reception (with food and drink) the night before the show opens.

There is no cost to the artists or the organization. We cover the cost of the postcards, press releases and an electronic newsletter posting the new show. The majority of the traffic is on opening night. After that, it’s mostly the university members that view the show. Sometimes we have youth tour visits and opportunities for workshops with kids (in which case we would contract with your members to teach). The space is only 450 square feet. 7) They have several openings in 2016. One in mid-April runs three months, the others one month.

I think all these opportunities sound very exciting. I will get more information to you as it is communicated to me. Misc. 1) We have $981.00 in the bank right now. Remember dues for next year can be paid at the Pot Luck in December or sent to Danette Polglase in January. Dues are still $25 per year. 2) Mosaic on a Stick show “Any Road Might Take You There” Julie Reeve’s mosaics Nov. 20th to Mid-January, opening night is Friday Nov. 20th 7:00 to 9:00 1564 LaFond Ave. St. Paul

Everyone is welcome to the show and opening night.

Positions to discuss: Treasurer- Danette is the current treasurer but Maria may take over the position if it can be set up thru pay pal. She is researching this.

Co- President- If anyone is interested in being co-president with me please let me know. I will continue on as president but I think I have been to every meeting in two and half to three years and I imagine that there may be some meetings I cannot make. It would be good to have another person who could run the meeting. New show scout - Janine is going to check with Hopkins Art Center for a future show. Barb Steen will check with Edina Art Center and Janet is checking a venue in Red Wing. I will contact The Maple Grove Art Center

If anyone has any other ideas for shows please let me know. December 9th will be our Pot Luck. Starting at 7:00 at Suzanne Demeules- 1475 Skyline Drive, Golden Valley 55422. I will send out an email first part of Dec. so we can sign up for food to bring. I believe we have started at 7:00 in the past. I will verify the time with Suzanne.

We have a Snowflake Christmas Theme. Anyone who wants to participate can make something with this theme. In the past we have brought our items and tried not to let people see what we brought. Then we guessed who the artist is and awarded a prize for the person who guessed the most correctly.

Meetings for 2016: If anyone who was not at the meeting wants to have a meeting at their home let me know. We have a few people that have had multiple meetings at their homes. Thank you so much for volunteering several times.

Feb.-This meeting may be at the Savage Arts Council. Maria is checking to see if we can use their space. We need an area where we can spread out because we are each going to make a paper mosaic. We will bring whatever papers we want to use for our mosaic and the guild will supply the base and special glues and varnish.

April-This meeting will be at my home. We have a mosaic challenge that ties into the Hudson Hospital show in 2017. You can do a mosaic (any size) that has a Healing and Inspiring theme. If you want to it can then be submitted to the Hospital show in 2017. We will also have a sale and swap time. We had this last year and those who participated wanted to do it yearly.

June- Will be at Janine’s home. We will bring a photo of a mosaic that can be made into cards. Janine, Barb and Susan will bring examples of cards that they have had made to the Pot Luck in December. If anyone else has cards that they have had printed please bring them as well. We will decide if we want to offer cards to a gift shop to sell. One idea was to have them at the Hudson Hospital gift shop and give some proceeds to the Hospital while our show is there.

Sept. - At Amy’s home. This mosaic challenge (again any size piece, or a 3 D piece) will have a patriotic theme. We are tying the theme in with the presidential election. We also discussed making up trading cards to swap between guild members. November- Planning meeting at Susan Mathis home.

December Pot Luck- at Laura Lee’s home.

More details on all of these meetings as we get closer to the month.

I don’t have the specific dates for each meeting but it is always the second Wednesday of the month that we meet. We try to have it posted on the blog and I try to send out a one month and one week out reminder. If you think you are missing out on emails let me know, and Lisa also posts the meeting minutes on the blog.

Best Regards, Trudy
