February 11th, 2015 Meeting Notes
We had about 10 people at the meeting so a smallish group but I think we had a great meeting with some excellent input from everyone. A big thank you to Lisa for hosting the meeting. It was fun to see where she creates her work. She has a heated garage and so many fun things to create with.
These are the items that were discussed (anyone who was at the meeting and wants to add to this please do).
Chairs with Flair opportunity- The event is Monday June 15th at the new Surly Brewery in Mpls. I will be sending an email that was sent to the past artists who participated. If you are interested in participating this year please contact Susan Crumrine to determine how to be accepted as an artist this year. I think you will need to contact her soon to participate this year. We have at least two artists from last year participating. If you don’t want to repurpose a piece of furniture it is well worth attending the event.
Lisa Ferguson can be considered our IT person. She is setting us up on a Gmail account. She will be transferring information from our current blog and the Gmail account will allow us to have a calendar and several other nice features. Lisa will be sending a separate email with more information to you soon. One of the items that she will cover is how to format jpegs to send to her for the site. She will set up the old blog to forward to the new account.
Laura Lee and our newest member Maria Durnbaugh have offered to be back up IT people to Lisa. This is a time consuming process and we really appreciate Lisa taking this on.
Rebecca Carroll let us know about a possible opportunity to show our mosaic art at a coffee shop in St. Paul named Fresh Grounds. If this turns into a real opportunity she will be sending out information to the group.

I need to provide a name for the show by Feb. 20th. If anyone feels inspired with a name for the show please get back to me in the next couple of days. Some names that were discussed are:
Breaking Traditions
Breaking Assumptions
Breaking Good
Breaking Notions
Title does not have to start with Breaking we were just on a breaking roll!
I will be meeting with the show coordinator in the next few days. A date has not been set yet for that meeting. Mimi and Rachel will also meet with the coordinator and if anyone else is interested please let me know ASAP.
Fridley Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts-There is a possibility to be accepted in a show in Fridley. Sheryl Tuorila has offered to do the submission on this. I will contact her to help in this process. The submissions are due March 15th so we will need to move quickly on this.
Show 3’ x 3” mosaics- Most everyone had a 3” x 3” mosaic to share. As always the variety was striking and some wonderful ideas became miniature mosaics.
Thanks to all who participated.
Mosaics to show the group
We hope people will bring mosaics that they are working on to our meetings-
Our newest member, Maria Durnbaugh had a lovely butterfly mosaic that she is working on to show us. Maria has been doing mosaics for about four years. We are so happy to have her as a new member.
Ceramic Plate Etc. Exchange
We all brought a ceramic “something” to exchange for our next challenge. We will take a picture of the ceramic piece that we have and then incorporate it into a new mosaic. If you were not at the meeting you can still participate. We have until the April meeting to get it completed. Find a challenging ceramic piece to start with, take a picture of it as a “before” and bring the transformed piece to the meeting. We can comment on how each piece was transformed.
Also at the April meeting on the 8th- We are planning to have a tesserae and tool swap/ sale. A good opportunity to get rid of stuff you are not using and maybe find some new stuff that will inspire you.
Best Regards All,
Trudy
